Hometown HEROS

Every Canadian child has scored the winning goal in a hockey game for the ages – even if its only in their own mind. Many of Canada’s youth are having the chance to do this for their local minor hockey teams too. For those who are less fortunate and live in more difficult neighbourhoods riddled with social challenges like drugs, poverty and crime, there is a program called HEROS.

HEROS stands for Hockey Education Reaching Out Society and offers free hockey programming for at risk youth in Canada. Recently HEROS Edmonton hosted a summer camp and Global News’ Mark Millard met HEROS Coordinator Mallory McMurtrie to find out what HEROS is all about.
