On Saturday February 14th, HEROS across nation will be celebrating Hockey Day in Canada in their own way, but none will participate in the authentic Canadian hockey experience as the program participants in Ottawa who will be playing an outdoor game in our nation’s capital. hockey-day-canada HEROS Ottawa will be taking on another local organization’s program in the 3rd annual outdoor game at Jules Morin Park. The game between HEROS and Christie Lake Kids recognizes the many successes of both groups on ice and is a celebration of their love of the sport. “For Canadians, playing hockey is a rite of passage but for many kids, due to costs associated with equipment and expensive ice time, it is an unachievable goal. We are very happy that we can provide kids with an opportunity to celebrate Hockey Day in Canada by playing a game against the Boys and Girls Club of OttawaHEROS. Our kids will have life-long memories of this event.” says Darcy Delaney, Executive Director of Christie Lake Kids. “Since our expansion into Ottawa, we have seen tremendous community support,” said Norm Flynn, Founder and Executive Director of HEROS. “With our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, we are helping more and more kids in the Vanier area, but also have made connections with other like-minded organizations like Christie Lake Kids to help the greater community. About Hockey Day in Canada 2015 Hockey-mad Canadians will celebrate their true love on Saturday, February 14 as one of the year’s most anticipated televised events returns, “Hockey Day in Canada”. Canada’s unofficial hockey holiday is headlined by a 13.5-hour national broadcast featuring all seven Canadian NHL teams in action. It all begins at 2 pm ET with the Edmonton Oilers in Ottawa to take on the Senators. That is followed at 7 pm ET when one of the longest running Original Six rivalries is renewed as the Montreal Canadiens play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Winnipeg Jets are in Detroit to face the Red Wings. The day concludes with the Calgary Flames hosting the Vancouver Canucks at 10 pm ET.
