Norm Flynn, Founder and Executive Director

Over a span of two decades, Norm has dedicated himself to teaching hockey, life and social skills to Canada’s at-risk youth. Starting with a dream of creating a free program for economically challenged children, this former WHL and university player understands the value and opportunities that sport can provide to young people. Norm was born and raised in the north end of Winnipeg – a tough, working-class neighbourhood. With the help of neighbours and family friends, he was able to play hockey at a young age. The game gave him a healthy outlet to channel his energy and grow his passion for hockey. Norm found himself surrounded by positive coaches, role models and peers. Hockey gave him the chance to work with leaders and mentors who taught him to focus his energy and maintain a productive life path. Norm played three seasons in the WHL and earned a four-year university hockey scholarship that allowed him to graduate with a business degree at the University of Winnipeg. Since realizing his dream for HEROS in 2000, Norm continues to dedicate his efforts to empowering at-risk youth both on and off of the ice. This commitment was recognized by The Government of Canada, awarding Norm with Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012. norm@oldsite.heroshockey.com
